What sets Muddy Dog Media apart from other video production houses?

First, we produce nothing but the highest quality video. Our director of photography has more than a dozen years of videography and editing experience working with some of the top broadcasters in New England, including CBS4 News in Boston, PBS, the Phantom Gourmet TV show, The Discover Channel, and many corporations and nonprofit organizations. He uses broadcast-quality cameras and lenses and all of the lighting and wireless mics your shoot requires. He's a master Avid editor as well. You'll never have to worry about technical quality of your footage or of the edited product.

But what we can do for you goes far beyond technical expertise. Our producers are veteran journalists and editors; we know how to tell your story and we can help you get your message across in a compelling and credible style. The best stories look like they were easy to tell - but a lot goes on behind the scenes to make them look that way! We'll help you select and prep your subjects; conduct pre-interviews to help you "cast" your video; and give you conceptual suggestions and detailed storyboards, if you need them. To make the editing and approval process more convenient, we make our rough cuts available for you to see on a password-protected portion of our Web site — it's a great time saver!

What does it cost to produce a video?

Frankly, it depends on a number of factors. The most important factors include:
  • What the video is intended to accomplish. For instance, do you need a TV commercial, a documentary, a promotional video, a training video, a CEO presentation that you post online, or a fundraising video?
  • How elaborate is the story you need to tell? A one-location, one-interview video obviously costs less than a multiple-location, documentary-style story told by eight different sources, with lots of "b-roll." (B-roll are the visuals that are paired with voice-overs.)
  • What are your production needs? Will you need flash animation and fancy graphics? A single-camera shoot or a shoot that requires multiple cameras?
As you can see, there's no one answer to the question, "what will it cost?" Because we are a small, highly experienced, and virtual agency drawing upon the very best resources in New England, we can keep your costs down while keeping our quality high. By learning more about what you're trying to achieve, we ensure that you get the best value for your budget: everything we do will be geared precisely toward meeting your communications and marketing goals.

I keep hearing about video on the Web and even for cell phones and iPODs. What should we be producing?

We can help you determine what format — or combination of formats — will best serve your purposes, whether you're a publishing company transforming editorial into a video magazine; a nonprofit raising funds, recruiting volunteers, or generating public awareness; a business promoting products; or a government agency training your people. In many cases, we can repurpose video shot for one format and use it for another quite affordably and efficiently.

In addition to giving you output on "traditional media" (DVD and VHS), we produce:
  • Streaming video
  • Video Web Logs (Vlogs)
  • Web-based video magazines
  • Podcasts
  • Vodcasts (podcasts with video)
  • Blogs
  • RSS News Feeds

How can a new video fit in with all of our other marketing efforts?

We can take your existing video — whether we produce it or not — and prepare it to appear in any number of mediums, including online, via blog or podcast, or even to play on mobile devices or iPods.

In other words, we can help you get the most mileage out of your video assets — and make sure you get the biggest bang for your video buck! What's more, we have the marketing experience to help you with the big picture, ensuring that your video builds on the rest of your marketing communications campaign.

Our existing Web site wasn't designed to host video. How difficult will it be to add video?

It won't take much of your time at all, and you don't need a dedicated, on-staff Web developer. We can work with your Web designer, marketing communications director, and/or graphic designer to create the right "look" for your video on your site. We can also handle posting it to the site or work with your Web-responsible employee or contractor to make that happen easily and affordably. Once we've posted video to your site, it's extremely easy to update it with new videos; we can do it or we can give you a brief tutorial on how to do it yourself.

What format do you shoot in?

Currently, we shoot in standard definition with DV-CAM.

Where will you travel?

We'll certainly travel nationwide, but especially focus on serving organizations throughout New England.

Do you have a crew?

We have our own crew and are "virtually" connected to some of the top talent in New Hampshire and Boston. By staffing each production separately, we keep our overhead — and your costs — down.

Is Muddy Dog Media a post-production house?

We have a full suite of editing tools and do all editing in-house with experienced digital editors and graphics specialists.

What other communication services does Muddy Dog offer?

We offer a variety of writing and editing services, à la carte or as part of a broader communications campaign that also includes video. We can:
  • Write video scripts (even if we're not shooting or editing)
  • Help you plan a communications campaign
  • Write or rewrite Web site copy
  • Write and edit strategic communications materials for nonprofits and businesses
  • Write ad copy

What kinds of workshops do you offer?

Elaine offers workshops on several topics, which are listed below. Generally, they are for managers, executive directors, and staff members for whom writing is important, but who also may do many other things during the course of their workday. Workshops are held at your office or at a convenient meeting site. For information about scheduling and our affordable fees, email Elaine@muddydogmedia.com or call 603-269-5452. (In addition, watch this site for announcements of future e-courses.)
